The GSF international team is not always able to be physically present in Haiti, sometimes not for many months, due to unrest, travel costs, dangers along the route, and now the pandemic; but our schools and programs run continuously in the very capable hands of Phélix Joseph and his experienced helpers, Yolande Caristyl and her crew, and Anousse Paul for the agriculture department feeding everyone. Our schools and programs are meant to maintain community while educating children and young people, and preventing malnutrition — but here are some highly significant side-effects of our long-term support which may not be noticed by the casual observer!
Children are no longer sent to be ‘restaveks’ or child-servants in the cities, nor to ‘orphanages’ because families cannot feed them
Girls as well as boys are able to stay in school, and enter higher education
Better nutrition for babies and children means higher intelligence and ability in school, and in life
Teachers and other staff can stay in the communities they are from, help their families, and earn a living
Micro-credit loans are available to almost everyone in the community to increase resilience, which has raised the standard of living
