Water Infrastructure for Ile a Vache
Access to potable water is minimal in rural Ile a Vache, so The Good Samaritan Foundation of Haiti, Inc. joined together with Rotary International to develop a community-based plan to improve the water supply and bring cisterns, and water catchment systems (guttering etc.) throughout the island.
Cisterns increase the supply of potable water, thus decreasing water borne disease and improving children's health. Community cisterns also help those responsible for obtaining water in rural Haiti: women and girls. Improvements to local wells - concrete surrounds, troughs for laundry and bathing, suitably placed latrines etc. also make a huge difference and we’ve had considerable success but hope to expand in this field.
